How New Freelancers Can Get Clients
This is a very common question that any client who comes to work with us or will come first ask about their portfolio. Do you have a portfolio? Show it.
Now the problem is that we are completely new, we haven’t worked with anyone before, so we don’t have a portfolio either. So what is the solution? It’s exactly the same situation where money says do something, so I will come, and we say do something if you have money.
3 Proven Ways to Handle “Show Me Your Portfolio” as a Beginner
In 2026, it has become even more important for you to earn online because the rise of online earning is spreading very fast all over the world. So, whatever field of online earning you are learning, the most important thing is the portfolio.
So here I am giving you two to three answers which, as a freelancer, I think you are asked before getting any job or while dealing with clients. Now there are 2-3 answers to this question.
1. Be Honest and Offer a Risk-Free Trial to Build Trust
The first answer is that both you and the client should understand that the beginning is always small. No one has experience beforehand, experience comes only by working.
You can honestly say that I am new in this field, I have not worked yet, I will work with you for the first time. But just saying this does not build trust, and it is possible that the client may not work.

So to build trust you can say one simple line. For example, first you get the work done from me, if you like the work and find it good then pay, otherwise there is no pressure on you. This builds a lot of trust.
2. Explain That Everyone Starts from Zero + Use Examples (Especially for Guest Posting)
Another way is that no one has a portfolio in the beginning. Neither I had one, nor many people do. Today’s big content creators, freelancers or YouTubers, all start from zero.
So how did they close their first client? The most important thing here is communication. If you can guide and make the client understand properly, then a lot of work gets done.
And if you’re providing a specific service, like guest posting, the concept of a portfolio is a bit different.

For example, if you’re a guest posting, your portfolio includes which websites you’ve previously linked to, what types of links they are, and what their results were. This is where the concept of live links comes in.
You can collect examples from people already working in the market or publicly available articles to show clients how this type of work is done, and what quality sites exist.
3. Build Social Proof on LinkedIn and Facebook (My Favorite & Most Powerful Method)
The third method, which is my favorite and which I recommend to everyone, is that if you don’t have a website, clients, or a portfolio, then build your social media following. LinkedIn and Facebook are the most helpful.
Share the work you do, the problems you face, their solutions, and the knowledge you have in the form of simple posts. Fancy stuff is not necessary, just useful information.

When you post regularly, you get likes, comments, connections, and gradually your identity builds. People get to know what work this person does, since when he has been doing it, and what type of content he shares.
Initially, I also did not have any portfolio, but we used to post informational posts on Facebook and LinkedIn. Whenever a client came, we would directly give the link of LinkedIn profile and ask them to check the profile.
By looking at the about section, posts and activity there, the client would get the idea that the person is real and has understanding of this field.
Actually, the meaning of portfolio is that there should be proof of your work. If that proof is not in the form of website or projects, then it can be in the form of knowledge and content.
Final Advice: Start Posting Consistently on Social Media
In the end, I will just say that this problem definitely arises, but I have told you 3 solutions. The last one is the most powerful of these.
Make good posts on Facebook and LinkedIn consistently for 2-3 months, networking will happen, connections will be made, and the chances of getting work will also increase.
Those who are big today, everyone started from zero. Don’t think who will like it, who will follow you. You do it, everything will happen gradually.
And if you are asking where to get the content, what to post, how to write, then the problem is not of portfolio, the problem is of knowledge. How can you take your client’s business forward when you’re not clear on your own? Be sure to focus on this. I’ve already covered the rest of the solutions.
